No one in Greater Hartford should go hungry.

At JFS, we know that food is more than a basic need. We meet you with dignity, respect, and cultural awareness. Our Anja Rosenberg Kosher Food Pantry offers fresh produce, eggs, pantry staples, and spices. We carry halal and Spanish food too. We also offer paper goods, diapers, and pet food. You can even book an appointment with a volunteer nutrition counselor.

Food + Nutritional Programs

With rising cost of living in Greater Hartford, our food and nutrition programs are more vital than ever.

We are the only kosher food pantry in central Connecticut, and we also carry halal food and many Spanish brands like Goya. Here you’ll find refrigerators filled with eggs and baked goods; baskets brimming with apples, oranges, carrots, and onions; and shelves packed with cereal, pasta, beans, and canned goods. We make a point of carrying low-sodium foods, individually wrapped snacks, and cake mixes so your family doesn’t have to miss out on birthdays. (We even have Old World specialties like gefilte fish.)

Pets are a key source of comfort, stability, and emotional support, especially during times of stress. Odie’s Shelf ensures no one in our community has to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pets. Founded by Maddie Rosenberg Toro as her bat mitzvah project, Odie’s Shelf has become a family project. Maddie’s cousin Sarah Rosenberg, shown here, is a steadfast contributor. Odie’s Shelf is named for Sarah’s late dog, Odie, who had a profound impact on her life and passion for helping animals in need.
Nutritional Consultant Lynn Malkoff has worked with JFS clients since 2015 to inspire healthy eating through education, encouragement, and empowerment. Lynn is a volunteer, and her private counseling sessions are offered at no cost. You’ll learn how to fuel and nourish your body with nutrient-dense foods and how to design menus that emphasize healthy plant proteins. You’ll learn how to feed yourself and your family well, even on a tight budget.

Kosher meal deliveries from Care at Home by JFS, our in-home senior care service, are a lifeline for homebound seniors who can no longer shop or cook safely. As one family recently shared, “We heat the meal, and suddenly we have a full dinner. It helps us tremendously.” Many clients are Holocaust survivors and/or Russian immigrants living on very low incomes. You can use the service for a brief or ongoing period.
